Stoic wisdom teaches us how to handle many important parts of life.
It helps with understanding things like love, death, change, hard work, being disciplined, suffering, time, worrying too much, friendship, sticking with things, anger, failure, what we can control, and how we work.
You write stoicism on any search engine and the world is ready to share you the wisdom of stoics.
There may be multiple quotes about every aspect of life that has the touch of stoic wisdom. If you want to understand dreams from a Stoic perspective, the quote above reflects my recent and limited understanding of Stoicism.
Epictetus believed that
Τίς εἶναι θέλεις, σαυτῷ πρῶτον εἰπέ: εἶθ’ οὕτως ποίει ἃ ποιεῖς.
First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.
It is a perfect stoic quote about dream but what it means? Allow a simple story to point that out.
Ronny, an enthusiastic traveler, hopped onto the bus with a bounce in his step and a broad grin. He’d managed to secure the coveted window seat and was overjoyed. “This is going to be the best journey ever!” he thought, settling in and enjoying the view.
The bus conductor, a man with a no-nonsense demeanor, strolled down the aisle. He reached Ronny and asked, “Sir, where are you heading? I need to issue your ticket.”
Ronny blinked, his excitement faltering. “Uh, well… I didn’t really think about that,” he admitted, scratching his head. “I just wanted this window seat.”
The conductor raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “You didn’t decide on your destination before boarding? Alright, try to remember, and in the meantime, let me help someone else,” he said, moving on to the next passenger who was already ready with their destination.
Ronny, lost in the scenery, didn’t notice the conductor’s skepticism. He gazed dreamily out the window as the bus continued its journey. After thirty minutes, the conductor returned and asked, “So, have you figured out where you’re going?”
