In the dimly lit prison hall, Samuel, a man with streaks of gray in his once-jet-black hair, looked down at the meager ration before him. His face, lined with the burden of past decisions, now bore the wrinkles of regret. A burly prison guard eyed him dispassionately.
“You’re not getting another slice of bread, Samuel,” the guard barked, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. “You think just because you used to be somebody out there, you’re special?”
Samuel clenched his fists, but his voice was calm. “I wasn’t asking for special treatment… just a little more food.”
The guard scoffed. “Save that smooth talk for someone who cares.”
As he turned away, Samuel let his eyes wander over the cracked floor and the rusty iron bars. Just a few years ago, he had dined in the finest restaurants, his table laden with extravagant feasts and surrounded by powerful people. How had he fallen so far?
