Bhagavad Gita: Understanding One Shloka at a time. (Chp. 4, Verse 5) — HBR Patel
श्रीभगवानुवाच |
बहूनि मे व्यतीतानि जन्मानि तव चार्जुन |
तान्यहं वेद सर्वाणि न त्वं वेत्थ परन्तप || 5||
Shri Bhagwan(Supreme Lord) said: You and I have undergone many births, O Arjuna. I am knowledgeable of all of them; but you are not knowing, O Parantapa. (a subduer of the enemy!)
Bhagwan Shri Krishna addresses the question asked by the Arjuna in the previous verse. He politely conveyed his doubt about the timeline and he asks Bhagwan Shri Krishna about it.
Bhagwan Shri Krishna says that they both have undergone many births and the human form that is in front of Arjuna is different from the one that explained the Karmayoga to Vivasvan. Bhagwan Shri Krishna knows all of his avatars that blessed and protected the earth from all kinds of evil.
Both have undergone many bodily manifestations and Arjuna is not aware of that while the Bhagwan Shri Krishna knows all of it because the supreme lord is complete and omniscient.
Due to the Maya, the attachment of the soul to the present body is so intense that we forgot the other bodies that we had in the past life. However, Bhagwan Shri Krishna is above the entanglement of Maya and is the supreme lord, he is an all-knower and he remembers all his bodily manifestations.
