Bhagavad Gita: Understanding One Shloka at a time. (Chp. 4, Verse 4) — HBR Patel
अर्जुन उवाच |
अपरं भवतो जन्म परं जन्म विवस्वत: |
कथमेतद्विजानीयां त्वमादौ प्रोक्तवानिति || 4||
Arjun said: Your birth is in the present and the sun-god Vivasvān is senior by birth to You. How am I to understand that in the beginning, You instructed this science to him?
In this shloka, Arjuna asks Bhagwan Shri Krishna to clarify the doubt about the timeline. Bhagwan Shri Krishna told Arjuna that he taught Karmayoga to the Vivasvan, the Sun God. And according to the physical timeline or the visible timeline, Vivasvan is elder according to birth.
Vivasvan, the Sun God is almost present since the creation of this earth and Bhagwan Shri Krishna who came to this earth recently. Then how did Bhagwan Shri Krishna explain the Karmayoga to the Sun? That is what Arjuna wanted to clarify with the Bhagwan Shri Krishna.
Instead of blatantly doubting the timeline, Arjuna humbly asks Bhagwan Shri Krishna about the explanation. The doubt of many is enclosed in this question to which Bhagwan Shri Krishna will answer.
