न मे पार्थास्ति कर्तव्यं त्रिषु लोकेषु किञ्चन |
नानवाप्तमवाप्तव्यं वर्त एव च कर्मणि || 22||

O Arjuna, in the spiritual worlds, the heavenly worlds and the material worlds there is no prescribed duty for me, nor do I have anything to gain or attain. Yet still, I am engaged in prescribed activities.

Bhagwan Shri Krishna explains to Arjuna the need to perform the prescribed actions. We all have to perform our righteous duty without any attachment to attain the enlightened state. And even after attaining the enlightened state, we should not discard our duties. We must act selflessly in this world, even after attaining the eternal essence.

Bhagwan Shri Krishna gave an example of King Janak to prove his point of an ideal Karma Yogi. In this shloka, Bhagwan Shri Krishna speaks about his own life. He has no prescribed duties in all of the three worlds and neither he has anything to gain or lose. Even though there is no reason to perform the actions, Bhagwan Shri Krishna acts for the service of humanity. He has no prescribed duties yet he acts for the welfare of all.

Bhagwan Shri Krishna was performing a role of a charioteer on the battlefield. Previously, he played many roles and acted for the benefit of all. All of his divine actions or ‘Divyaleela’ is mentioned very well in the Srimad Bhagavatam. Read those ‘Leelas’ to experience divinity and bliss.
