Restraining all the senses, the self-controlled should meditate on me, since for one whose senses have been brought under control is established in the perfect knowledge.

Bhagavad-Gita-Chp-2-Verse-61-Shloka-HBR-Patel

Bhagwan Shri Krishna explains to Arjuna that one should control all the senses and should sit on meditation. One should set a goal higher than oneself and should control the turbulent senses and sit in the meditation. The meditation should be performed by subduing all the senses and fixing the mind on a higher goal, that is the Bhagwan.

One should focus on the Supreme Entity that is steady and by focusing on the steady one our wandering mind tends to stabilize itself on the divine. However, Bhagwan Shri Krishna does not point out the way to steady those wondering senses but he described that one should bring their senses under control and then only one should sit in meditation. Otherwise, it would be futile to sit wandering about the sensory pleasure while the others think that we are meditating.

However, one should not give up the effort of subduing the senses as it is quite hard, and only when we surrender to the Bhagwan Shri Krishna, we somehow overcome the drifting senses. And when we attain such a stage where we can control our senses at will, we have said to attain the stage of ultimate knowledge.
