One who is undisturbed amidst sorrow, who is not elated when there is happiness, and who is free from attachment, fear, and anger, that sage is known as steadfast in consciousness.

Bhagavad-Gita-Chp-2-Verse-56-Shloka-HBR-Patel

Answering the questions asked by Ajuna, Bhagwan Shri Krishna says that a sage with a steady intellect is never disrupted by the onslaught of miserable conditions and is never elated by the joy or happiness that life has to offer. He is steady in both extremities of life as his mind is free of desires.

The mind that wants nothing is not swayed by anything.

The sage who has attained the state of equanimity remains unaffected and free from the attachment, fear, and anger as he had given away all the desires of the material things. For such a person, the grace of Bhagwan attained by his selfless service is everything.
