O noblest amongst men(Arjuna), the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and who is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.

Bhagavad-Gita-Chp-2-Verse-15-Shloka-HBR-Patel

Bhagwan Shri Krishna in this verse highlights the quality required to attain liberation.

The sole intention of our existence on this earth is for the liberation of our soul.

Breaking the bondage of birth and death is the reason that Bhagwan has granted us this mortal body.

This physical body can help us attain immortality via liberation. Here immortality should not be confused with the prolonged or eternal physical existence but Bhagwan Shri Krishna points out to the liberation where we enjoy the bliss of Bhagwan forever and ever.

The person who remains unaffected by the happiness and distress and who remains equipoised is the one who is eligible for liberation. One who is spiritually intelligent with apt understanding and patience to remain equal in happiness and unhappiness becomes eligible for immortality.

By highlighting this fact, Bhagwan Shri Krishna encourages Arjun to rise above this happiness and sorrow. And by doing so, he will be eligible for liberation.
