तत्रापश्यत्स्थितान् पार्थ: पितृ नथ पितामहान् |
आचार्यान्मातुलान्भ्रातृ न्पुत्रान्पौत्रान्सखींस्तथा |
श्वशुरान्सुहृदश्चैव सेनयोरुभयोरपि || 26||
Thereafter Arjuna saw his fathers, grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, brothers, cousins, sons, nephews, grand-nephews, friends, fathers-in-law, and well-wishers who were present in both armies.
Arjuna could see all of his near and dear ones on both sides of the battlefield. He could see those people that were like fathers, grandfathers, teachers, maternal-uncles, brothers, cousins, sons, nephews, grand-nephews, friends, fathers-in-law, and well-wishers.
The mentioned as the fathers and grandfathers were of the same generation as that of Arjuna’s father and grandfather. Dronacharya and Kripacharya are the teachers that Arjuna sees on the opposite side of the battlefield ready to fight against him.
This shloka highlights that Arjuna could see and relate to the majority of the individual in one way or another in terms of the relationship. At one point, Arjuna was confident enough to fight with the enemies for a righteous cause but after a close look, he found that he was related by one or another way with the majority of his enemies.
For Arjuna, the reality was sinking in. A Major change is on the Horizon.
