स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत् |

नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो नुनादयन् ||19||

The hearts of Dhritarashtra’s sons were shattered by that tumultuous sound (Sounds originating from the Conchshells) as it thundered across the sky and the earth.

Sanjay paints the reality and he chooses apt words to describe what he sees there. No sugar coating nor exaggerating, just plain and simple fact that Kauravas couldn’t fathom.

The Sounds originating from the conch shell of the Pandavas and the warriors on their side was enough to indicate their spirit, their determination, and preparation for this Dharma Yuddha. That sound installed fear in the hearts of Dhritarashtra’s sons or to be precise, in the hearts of Kauravas.

Sanjay did not use such words previously while the Kaurava army blew their conches. No fear was visible at that time on the faces of Pandavas. As soon as that tumultuous sound thundered across the sky and the earth, fear clouded the minds and hearts of Kaurava. It was so intense, that Sanjay could not resist describing it.

The reason was evident:

Kaurava relied on their physical strength to win the war while Pandavas relied on the strength and protection of the Bhagwan Krishna.

When you surrender yourself to the supreme entity, he takes care of you and we will witness that notion during the war.
