In this way, the saintly kings came to know about this science received by the disciplic succession; after a great duration of time, this science of uniting the individual consciousness with the Ultimate consciousness became lost in this world, O Conqueror of the enemy.

Bhagwan Shri Krishna said: I instructed the imperishable science of uniting the individual consciousness with the ultimate consciousness unto the Sun God Vivasvan (Surya), who taught it to his own son Vaivasvata Manu, who told it to his son King Iksvaku.

Thus Knowing the eternal essence to be superior to the intellect, O mighty-armed, steady the mind by self-realization (subdue the self {senses, mind, and intellect} by the self {strength of the soul}) and conquer the insatiable enemy in the form of lust.

It is said that the senses are superior but more than the senses, the mind is superior but more than the mind, the intelligence is superior and that [the Atma/the soul/the eternal essence/the individual consciousness] is even higher than the intelligence.

O Kaunteya(Son of Kunti, Arjuna), the discrimination of even the knowledgeable is covered by this eternal enemy in the form of lust, which is like an insatiable fire.

Bhagavad-Gita-Chp-3-Verse-38 — Cover-HBR-Patel

Just as a fire is covered by smoke, as a mirror by dust, and an embryo is covered by the womb, so this knowledge is covered by that desire.

Bhagavad-Gita-Chp-3-Verse-37 — Cover-HBR-Patel
